The Clínica Alemana Adolescent Unit treats more than 700 patients between the ages of 10 and 24 monthly. The main reasons for their visits are as follows: preventive health controls, gynecological consultations, vocational orientations, and problem management for eating disorders, depression and other mood conditions, which are increasingly being diagnosed in young people.
During the past few years, this Unit has experienced significant growth in the number of patients treated. Therefore, in 2007 new professionals were added and the Unit was relocated from Concilio Vaticano to the 14th floor of the Consultation and Diagnosis Center. The Unit still has eight offices, but has added a new reporting room as well as a doctors lounge.
Growth experienced since its creation in 2000 and its strong participation in academic activities during the last few years, has transformed Clínica Alemana's Adolescent Unit into a national resource.
In June of 2008, Dr. Andrea Schilling, who was in charge of the Unit during its formative years, returned as its head. She observes, "The Adolescent Unit has become a national point of reference as evidenced by the fact that whenever seminars on adolescence are held a representative of our team is invited to make a presentation. Furthermore, we are more actively participating in the organization of these events and/or presenting papers to them".

Additionally, in 2008, eight professionals of Clínica Alemana's Adolescent Unit were among those selected by the Ministry of Health's Adolescence Program to work on the expansion of the guidebook for the care and counseling of adolescents which will be distributed nationally.
"Currently, we are the largest and most diverse private sector health unit specializing in adolescents", observes Dr. Schilling.
