Clínica Alemana announces the winners of its First Scientific Photography Contest: "Hospital Eye"
Each picture shows amazing and never-before-seen medical images.

Cells with different shapes, enlarged bacteria, transplanted organs and strange pathologies, are some of the images produced for Clínica Alemana's First Scientific Photography Contest titled "Hospital Eye". Its purpose is to make medical science and its advances accessible to the general public, who will be able to learn about and be surprised by images to which they otherwise would not have access.

The contest invited all of Clínica Alemana's health professionals to present original photographs from their medical specialties. The three winners were announced at the Ceremony to mark the End of the Academic Year by Dr. Claus Krebs, Clínica Alemana's General Director.

Dr. Patricia González, Dr. Iván Roa and the medical technician, César Andrés Salinas

First place went to Dr. Iván Roa, Chief of Pathological Anatomy, for his photograph titled "The Cell Fish" which shows cells from a Pap test (an exam used to detect cancer cells in the uterine cervix.). "I think this is an excellent program as it opens participation to people in all specialties.  This is especially relevant nowadays as digital images have become part of our daily work", he said.

Second place was awarded to medical technician César Andrés Salinas for his photograph taken in Magnetic Resonance which he named "The Tunnel". Third place went to Dr. Patricia González, Infectious Disease Specialist and Director of Microbiology at the Hospital's Laboratory for "TBC Colonies," an image of a Mycobacterium tuberculosis culture observed under a magnifying glass.

The winners were selected by a jury that included Dr. Claus Krebs, Paula Ithurbisquy, Commercial Manager; Dr. Arturo Ayala, internist; and José Manuel Domínguez who is a professional photographer.
